I'm a PhD candidate in scientific machine learning at the Centre de Recherche Interdisciplinaire (CRI) in Paris. My main interests are how to use deep learning to extract more information from experiments and how it can be used to design new materials. Most of my time is spent on DeepMoD, a framework I've developed to perform model discovery, a process which automatically discovers mathematical models from data. CRI is in an interdisciplinary institute, and I spent the rest of my time working on classifying the behaviour of fruit flies (a collaboration with Michael Rere) and on developing new models for antibiotic resistance, a collaboration with Jake Wintermute.
Gert-Jan's Bio

My background is in applied physics with a focus on condensed matter. I received my Bachelors and Masters from the Technical University of Eindhoven. During my studies, I worked in the NanoSpin at Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland) on magnonic crystals and spent a year studying the formation of the Golgi apparatus (an organelle of a cell) at Institut Curie under the supervision of Pierre Sens and Kees Storm.
